Footprint Travel is more than proud to be the tour company welcoming Cambrian College’s dental hygiene students to Vietnam. Ten students from Sudbury, ON, Canada will be coming in March (2012) to share what they have learned about dental hygiene to children in Sapa.
Beyond the volunteer training the students will be delivering, the Cambrian College students will also be bringing donated items, like toothbrushes, to share with the village schools they visit. Cindy Wing (pictured bottom-right), a Dental Health Programs professor, said that, “This is a rich learning opportunity for students. Employers are always looking for people who have multinational and multicultural experience. It will also build students’ confidence, and communication skills.”
The trip is planned for early March, which is also Dental Health month. To help pay for travel and the costs of supplies, the students have initiated a fundraising campaign through the Cambrian Foundation. Donations to the ‘2012 Dental Vietnam Initiative’ can be made online using the link provided.
Plans have also been made to visit an orphanage in Hanoi and connect with other Dental Hygiene schools in Hanoi.
Footprint would like to congratulate the Dental Hygiene students and faculty of Cambrian College for all their efforts. It is hoped that their story will inspire other schools, as well as other organizations, companies, and travellers to think about philanthropic and responsible travel.
