Footprint supported the “Green Sapa day” August 19th, 2010

The Green Sapa day was taken on August 19th, 2010. Footprint was very pleased to support this event of tree planting in Ban Ho village, Sapa – Lao Cai. This was a working together with other tour operators in Hanoi (RTC), SNV, IPADE, Sapa tourism, Ban Ho schools, Sapa tour operators, sapa hotels…

 

Overview

Tourism has been a good source of income for the people of Sapa district, of Lao Cai province but tourism here has been also bringing some negative impacts to the environment of the areas, Ban Ho village is one of the many examples in Sapa which has the very negative impacts by the hydro-power plant.

Before the power project planned here, Ban Ho village was a good destination for tourists to come and stay overnight but it has been a sharp decrease because of the power plant destroyed.

Therefore, the Green Up Sapa Day will be the one of event reminding people to pay attention to think about environment in Sapa particular and Vietnam in general.
 

The objectives of the Green Sapa day

  • To mobilize people realize the importance of environment and make them to understand more about environment reservation
  • To create this event as an annual Green Sapa Day
  • To educate the next generation to protect environment
  • To remind organization in Sapa join in environment protecting.


Venue of the event: Ban Ho village, Sapa.
 

Participants: SNV, IPADE, RTC, SAPA authority, Lao Cai Docst, Lao Cai nature and environment, Hoang Lien National Park, Sapa environment organization,Song Da, Nam Toong and Su Pan hydro electric joint stock company, Pupil of some school in Sapa, Sapa Hotel and restaurant association, Lao Cai/Sapa Tour companies, Lao Cai/Sapa youth union.
