Being with Footprint for over 10 years, I’ve got a chance to explore different parts of Vietnam on so many means of travel, from long trekking, cycling, motorcycling, touring on a car or buses, trains or planes.
After all the experience, I’ve found down that cycling is probably the most interesting mean of travel, its also the easiest way to exercise while you are traveling.
For Footprint’s travelers, I would love to share my prefered list of destinations in Vietnam for your cycling trip, hereby I will mentioned from the easy ride destinations to the most difficult one (top tough cycling).
Cycle around Hanoi village is probably the most easy bike ride in Vietnam, it’s quite flat and the countryside traffic is not that busy, it’s also very interesting that we hit through the paddy field, traditional villages, crossing the ferry and add to that is our visit to one of the local traditional home will make this an excellent getaway day trip from the old town of Hanoi.
For longer adventures on bike but easy, I would like to suggest you to 2 to 3 days easy biking in the Mekong delta, the terrains are of course flat as the road runs along the mekong rivers, the highlights of this cycling that you cycle along the river road, passing the local bridges, and numerous rural villages.
Ninh Binh‘s terrain is split into three main areas: hills and mountains, semi-hills and mountains, delta, and coastal area and sea, for cycling, it’s a little in between easy and difficult as you climb on the semi-hills and mountains, the highlights of Ninh Binh is the limestone mountain system with rivers and stream systems, you can cycle from 2 to 4 days around this spectacular place – often called Halong onland.
My fourth grade of biking in Vietnam is around Mai Chau and Pu Luong, this is for those who love to cycle intermediate for 2-4 days near Hanoi, the elevation variation can vary from 200m to 600m, this is quite challenge sometimes. The highlights of this trip is the lush tribal villages of the ethnic minority groups in the valleys of Mai Chau and Pu Luong.
NorthEast – Footprint has planned this route into Vietnam’s most northern provinces, and promises it to be both challenging and off the beaten track. Travel and cycle through the karst limestone landscapes, visiting hill trip villages and beautiful waterfalls.
Of course, there are more places in Vietnam that you can cycle from short to long days, contact one of our travel consultants today to design your own cycling trip.
