Disposable plastic products prohibited in Van Don's islets

To protect the environment and promote sustainable tourism, the island communes of Van Don District in Quang Ninh Province have banned disposable plastic products. From April 27th, 2024, visitors to the five island communes of Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Ngoc Vung, Thang Loi, and Ban Sen will no longer be allowed to bring disposable plastic products.

To support this initiative, tourists and residents are encouraged to use recycled and environmentally friendly products as alternatives to plastic bags. Billboards and posters with the theme "Do not bring plastic waste to the island" have been installed at Ao Tien International Port (Cai Rong) and six piers in the five island communes, reminding visitors to leave their plastic waste behind.

The "Say no to single-use plastic products" program, launched by Van Don District, aims to raise awareness about the risks of plastic waste pollution and promote a change in behavior among residents and tourists. The program will continue to educate the community on the importance of reducing plastic waste, minimizing its generation, and promoting recycling.

Van Don District has set ambitious targets to reduce plastic waste in the island communes. By 2025, the district aims to reduce plastic waste by 50% in Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Ngoc Vung, Thang Loi, and Ban Sen. By 2030, the goal is to eliminate plastic waste in these island communes.

This move follows in the footsteps of Co To Island District, which also banned disposable plastic products from September 15th, 2023. Together, Van Don and Co To are taking significant steps towards building a green and friendly tourist destination.

By saying goodbye to disposable plastic products, Van Don Island Communes are paving the way for a more sustainable future. This initiative sets a positive example for other tourist destinations to follow, and we can't wait to see the positive impact it will have on the environment.
